The Smart Pipe Handler is installed in the center of the monkey board fingerboard and is used to lift and set down drill collars, drill pipe and heavy weight drill pipe. It mainly consists of the lifting assembly, carriage assembly, robotic arm assembly and clamp assembly. Working together with the drill floor robotic arm, the Smart Pipe Handler moves pipe stands between the wellhead and the monkey board fingerboard, achieving automated racking of stands.

The upper Smart Pipe Handler is installed above the monkey board to lift and set down drill collars, drill pipe and heavy weight drill pipe. It mainly comprises the carriage assembly, trolley assembly, post, tong assembly and tong sliding trolley components. The lower Smart Pipe Handler is installed below the monkey board to grip and lift drill pipe and to bottom-push drill collars; it mainly comprises the Pedestal Assembly, Carriage Assembly and Clamp Assembly. The drill floor pipe handling robot and the upper and lower Smart Pipe Handlers work in coordination to move pipe stands between the wellhead, the monkey board fingerboard and the front of the monkey board, achieving automated pipe racking.
